Mr. Kiran Mathew Thomas is a President at Reliance Industries Limited, and is a Director on the Board of Reliance Jio.
He has been with the Reliance Group for the past 20 year.
He joined the company in 1997 as an software engineering manager at Reliance’s Jamnagar refinery.
He was a key member of the technology team that created various best-of-breed software systems used in the refinery.
After the successful commissioning of the refinery in 1999, he took a 2 year break to pursue a full-time MBA degree at Stanford Business School, USA.
In 2001, he re-joined Reliance as one of the initial members of Reliance Infocomm, the Reliance group’s telecom venture.
He started in the Chairman’s Office, initially focusing on strategy and planning, and subsequently, numerous projects and business groups, ranging from branding and marketing, human resources, customer care, billing, revenue assurance and customer lifetime value management.
In early 2005, post the demerger of Reliance Infocomm from the Reliance Group, he rejoined the Chairman’s Office to look at new expansion opportunities for the Reliance Group.
He was one of the initial members of the core team that developed the business blueprint and project plan for Reliance Retail.
In addition to ramping up the retail business, Kiran also created key Strategic Partnerships with leading global retailers including M&S, Diesel, Timberland, Office Depot, Vision Express Hamleys and many Luxury brands.
Since Reliance’s purchase of 4G spectrum in 2010, he has been part of the core team responsible for Strategy, Planning, Project execution and launch.
At Jio he is responsible for Technology Innovation and the development of Jio’s next-generation software platforms.
This includes the systems that handles more than a million sign-ups at Jio per day, more than 10 million recharges and payments a day, network systems that handle nearly a million events per SECOND, and most recently the Jio KBC application than enabled more than 5 million simultaneous users to play along LIVE with KBC TV program.
Before joining Reliance, he worked with Tata Unisys Limited, a leading IT consulting firm.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from the Cochin University of Science and Technology, India, and holds an MBA from the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, USA.
Kiran is the son of Mr. Thomas Mathew and Susy Thomas. His bedrock of support is his better half Mrs Minu Mathew, son Thomas Jr and daughter Tara.
He is an avid basketball player, and has a lifelong passion for technology, especially in the areas of computing and software programming.
