Amir Rao

Amir Rao is Global GTM and Solutions Director, AWS for Telecom. His team serves Telco customers and partners globally and is responsible for working with Global Telco partners and customers to help them adopt cloud across the value chain of their business and across the topology of their network. Amir’s team focuses on delivering solutions and running specialist GTM motions globally to meet Telco customers use cases and solutions. This includes 5G network transformation across Core and RAN, OSS/BSS modernization, Omni-channel Customer Experience, TV Media migrations, etc. besides enabling Telcos to build SMB and Enterprise offerings to drive digital transformation and monetization. Prior to his current role, he was Director of Product management for Amazon EC2 Edge and built products and services that enable Telcos to run their network functions on AWS including the AWS Outposts racks for high throughput workloads, and AWS Outposts servers designed for Cloud RAN. In this capacity he also managed AWS Wavelength business for 5G Edge and localized application processing in collaboration with Telcos. Prior to joining Amazon EC2 team, Amir was GM of solutions and partner portfolio for AWS’s Telco business. Amir possesses 25+ yrs of global work experience with tier 1 technology providers such as AWS, Motorola Solutions, Huawei, Nokia, and Microsoft. Amir has led new technology introduction across global markets, such as CDMA in 2005, WIMAX in 2006, LTE in 2012, 5G MEC (Wavelength Zones) in 2019, AWS Outposts as NFVi in 2019, 5G Network on AWS cloud with Dish in 2021, and most recently AWS Outposts for Telefonica 5G Core on premises, and introduction of AWS Outposts Cloud RAN server with Nokia. Amir is well versed with the landscape of Telco & Cloud technology infrastructure and relevant business models. He is a Stanford GSB and London Business School alumni, and has worked across APAC, EMEA, and North America regions.
