Renee Mateparae

Renee joined the Executive team at Spark, New Zealand’s largest telecommunications and digital services company, in 2023 as the Network and Operations Director. She is responsible for the architecture, design, build, deploy, operate and sustain phases for Spark’s fixed and mobile networks, including engineering, operation centres, physical infrastructure and cyber security. Renee is also responsible for Spark’s wholesale business, capital investment, and procurement and partnering on behalf of Spark Group.

Previously, Renee led Spark’s Technology Evolution tribe – including its 5G programme, Internet of Things business and other large network infrastructure programs. Renee was one of the founding tribe leads through Spark’s agile transformation and has held various roles leading Spark’s mobile business, and in it's Ventures portfolio.

With a passion for leveraging technology to improve sustainability and productivity outcomes for communities, businesses and individuals, Renee brings more than 20 years’ global experience in corporate strategy, business transformation and customer experience to her role. Before joining Spark in 2017, Renee spent time with Air New Zealand, Macquarie Group and Accenture. She has a first-class honours degree in Engineering, specialising in Automation & Control.

Renee also sits on the Board of the Rural Connectivity Group, a joint venture between New Zealand’s three mobile network operators to bring better mobile connectivity to rural parts of the country, and Spark’s wholly owned technology delivery and service subsidiary, Entelar Group.
