Prof Mo Zoualfaghari

Prof Mohammad Zoualfaghari is the World-wide Technology Leader for Telco at Amazon Web Services (AWS). In this role, he has been instrumental in leading successful end-to-end Telecom initiatives with Tier 1 operators, earning a reputation as a trusted C-level advisor and strategist. His innovations in 5G, IoT and Generative AI at AWS have earned him the title of ‘Innovator of the Year’1. Mo also serves as the engagement lead overseeing the TM Forum at Amazon.
In addition to his role at AWS, Mo is a visiting professor at the University of Surrey’s 5G/6G Innovation Centre (5>6GIC), Europe’s largest Industrial 5G/6G research network. His expertise spans across IoT, Private 5G, and Digital Business Marketplace (DBM). He was recognized as the UK’s Engineer of the Year in 2021 for his invention of the Zero Touch Onboarding (ZTO) technology suite.
Before joining AWS, Mo held positions in BT Applied Research as a research manager and IoT architect. He led the technical design & delivery for the UK’s flagship smart cities pilots and was the lead for BT’s international centre of excellence in Ireland (BTIIC).
Mo’s academic contributions include serving as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Birmingham (UK). He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and a Master of Engineering (MEng, 1st Class) degree, both in Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering from the University of Birmingham (UK), earned in 2015 and 2009, respectively.
An active contributor to the scientific community, Mo is a distinguished member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He is the registered inventor of numerous patents and has authored several book chapters, whitepapers, journals, and conference papers.
