TV Chalapathi Rao (Chala) holds 30+ years of experience spanning technical, operations, projects, sales roles in the telecommunication industry. Chala holds a Masters in Engineering (ME) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and Master of Science, MS (Finance) and CFA from ICFAI, Hyderabad.
Chala started his career as a Research and Development Engineer at Bharat Electronics (A Ministry of Defence Establishment). Chala served as Divisional Project Manager in Indian Railways where he established Digital Exchanges, Digital Microwave Systems and OFC Systems.
When telecom sector was deregularised, Chala moved to private sector and become Head of Networks Planning for BPL Mobile in Mumbai (one of the first GSM Networks deployed in India), after which Chala moved to Lucent Technologies and has been responsible for designing and deploying Basic Services, GSM and CDMA Network in multiple states across India.
After a brief stint as CTO at IComm, Chala joined Tata Communications and held various roles in Networks and Equipment Planning. He is founding member of TCTS which started in year 2006, Chala held various roles at TCTS including heading it during 2012-13.
One of his previous assignments in the group has been at Neotel-SA as Chief of Networks and customer service during which he streamlined network operations and started LTE Networks, successfully deployed first broadband network for Western Cape government. He was also on board of Cape Digital Foundation and Chief Ethics Officer at Neotel.
